Here's a little souvenir from Baltimore Games Day (The Ork not the mountain)

The mountain Is a modified desktop fountain thing I got at a flea market.
(I touched up the paint sawed off a useless bit from the bottom and flocked the base a bit) _________________

Ok I started working on the swamp.

I instead of back painting this time I printed out some swampy looking pictures,
and glued it to the bottom with white glue.
Later I will add some dead trees and hanging moss, some swampy ground and a few ferns. _________________

That's a pretty slick idea!
Right now I'm making a movement tray for my Saurus Warriors. I know it's not really terrain, but it's kinda like it...
I'll post some pics tomorrow. _________________

Hey. I thuoght this would be a good place to post a question (rather than starting a new topic).
I'm thinking of doing a small lake or river at some point. I'm gonna use the plastic case that came with movement trays for a base and paper mache for the edges.
I wanted to know the best way to make a detailed water effect I'd prefer not to buy GW's super expensive water effect stuff but if that's the best then u probably should.
Any ideas? Also any pointers in making it generally would be nice. Thanks guys |

There's stuff called Soft Gel Medium that works really well, as long as you thin it out first. A big tub of it will cost the same as a bottle of water effects, but you can get about 50 times more out of it. An added bonus to the thick stuff is that you can use it to create waves, ripples, splashes, rapids, etc.
Check here for more info. _________________

Paper mache is ok but I don't think it would stick to a smooth sheet of plastic very well...
Check out your local hard ware store for stuff to make the banks out of,
wou could use things like spackeling, plastic wood, bondo, calc, water putty, ect...
Wo can also find Water Effects stuff localy if you look around,
try the craft section of big stores like wallmart or target,
also Michels or a flower shop is a good bet.
Don't forget you can color the botom on the river as well as the water itself.
Also after you have made your river banks, you are probaly want to add some more texture with sand and white glue.
Oh and if you are doing river sections make shure to seal the ends of the
river with tape or somethin so the water efects doesn't go everywhere,
this stuff will leak out of the smallest crack. _________________

Ok WIP Pictures as promised

After twisting up my trees i coat them in hot glue to add bulk,
then I carefully Shoth them out with a lighter, them I attach them to a foam base.

After everything cools off I slop on some Water Putty and before it dries I dump a load of sand on them,
after it dries I brush off the excess sand and the sand stuck on top of the roots. _________________

The Ruin is made from some sort of brick I found on the beach...
I based the glyph off of a shield in the 6th edition book on the weapons page. _________________

I should have some new pictures Up prety soon of some
aquarium terrain I and converting to wargame terrain,
mostly this involves filling in the holes the fish are suposed to swim through and improving the paintjob and basing the thing properly.
As allways I you made and warhammer terrain especial if it was for Lizardmen,
post your pics here and you can add the terrain builders metal to your signature. _________________

I love this thread! Makes me want to make a foam-core, Lustrian ziggurat
This little guy is an early WIP shot of what will eventually be a Saurus Warrior unit-filler. It's made of 2 cavalry bases (glued and green stuffed together), and a bit of cork with some green stuff on it. That's kinda like terrain, right?
...more on that as it develops (hopefully) into something worth looking at |
